The binding was inspired by the book’s overall tone. The combination of messy, distressed strokes as well as the gruesome colour palette reflect the horrors of the No Man’s Land. Hand drawn illustrations create the vintage aesthetic representative of the early 20th century. Surrealistic illustrations represent different scenes from a book through the use of visual metaphors and symbolism in order to stimulate the reader to ponder on a particular subject.
